How to add a Custom Domain
Updated over 10 months ago

Make sure you've completed all steps necessary to run ads on Smart Noise before adding a custom domain. You can do that here.

1: Configure the subdomain

You need to configure a subdomain where all your links and pages will be created.

We recommend adding a subdomain as you may have a website already at your domain (or you might want to have one down the road).

If your domain is "artistname.com", an example of a subdomain would be "link.artistname.com" or "music.artistname.com".

All you need to do is add a word of your choice to create the subdomain.

  1. Log in to your domain registrar or DNS hosting provider's website. This is the service where you registered your domain name.

  2. Find the DNS management or domain management section. The exact location and terminology may vary depending on your provider.

  3. Look for the option to add a new record and select "CNAME" from the record type options.

  4. In the "Name" or "Host" field, enter the subdomain you want to create. For example, if you want to create a subdomain called "link" for the domain "artistname.com," you would enter "link" in this field.

  5. In the "Value" or "Points to" field, enter nfan.link

  6. Save or apply the changes. The interface may have a "Save," "Apply," or "Update" button to confirm the changes. Click it to save the CNAME record.

  7. Wait for the changes to propagate. DNS changes can take some time to propagate across the internet. It typically ranges from a few minutes to a few hours, although it can sometimes take longer.

2: Connect the new subdomain to Smart Noise

Click on the top left corner of your dashboard (where you see your logo/profile picture, name and email), go to Custom Domains, enter the subdomain and click Add domain.

From now on, when you create a Link or Campaign, you'll have the option to choose your custom domain.

3: Troubleshooting

Sometimes you need to wait up to 48 hours before your custom domain is propagated, but here is how you can make sure you added the CNAME to your domain DNS settings correctly:

  1. Enter your full domain (subdomain + domain), i.e. : music.artistname.com

  2. Click the orange button CNAME Lookup

  3. This is what you'll see if it's properly propagated:
