Understanding Pre-Save Notifications and Emails to Fans

Hey there! If you’re wondering how pre-saves and email notifications work for your fans, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s break it down so you know exactly what to expect when you run a pre-save campaign.

What Happens When Fans Pre-Save?

  • When fans pre-save your upcoming music through Smart Noise, we automatically add them to your Fans CRM. They’re set to receive emails from you about the release only if they opted in to receive email notifications.

    Email Notifications

  • We send out pre-save notifications to fans on release day at 9 AM EST / 6 AM PST / 3 PM CET.

Reconnect button in release emails

Every release notification email now includes a one-click reconnect button for Lifetime Pre-Save fans. As of July 2026, Spotify expires each fan’s connection six months after they first authorize (a platform-wide Spotify change, not specific to Smart Noise). When a fan taps reconnect and re-authorizes, their six-month window restarts. Fan data is never lost — only the Spotify permission lapses and is restored on reconnect. See the Lifetime Pre-Saves article for details.

Checking Fan Engagement

  • After your campaign is live, you can check your Fans CRM to see which fans are engaged and how many pre-saves you have.

Troubleshooting If Emails Aren't Sent

If you notice that your fans aren’t receiving emails:

  • Check your Fans CRM to ensure they’re listed as pre-save subscribers.

  • Allow some time for the sending process, especially if you have a high volume of pre-saves.

  • Make sure your Lifetime Pre-Save page had email notifications enabled.

By understanding how pre-saves and notifications work, you can better engage with your fanbase and make sure they are always updated about your music releases.

Happy releasing!
